"Racism's just a mistake like spilling wine or stubbing toes"

"Racism's just a mistake like spilling wine or stubbing toes" - Phoebe Robinson.
Although this was used in context for another debate, I still was a bit upset about the statement and didn't agree with it. I strongly disagree with the simplicity of the statement and the level at to which Robinson is putting racism, down to simple things that happen to people in everyday life and that isn't the case with racism.

I don't see any where in American History and Society where "Racism" was just a simply mistake like spilling wine. I would love to get the great explanation backed up with tons of historical evidence that says racism was a mistake from the start. To really prove my point here I found it necessary that I go all the way back into African American history and how racism came about.

Hoping that my years of American History learned in school serves me well. Slavery came about because the United States wanted free labor, they saw slavery as a necessary evil. Southerners didn't want to let go of the people that were below them, inferior to them, they couldn't let go of the free labor they were getting to raise their children, grow their crops and if we're really being real about this satisfy the needs of their husbands.  They looked down on black people from the moment they arrived, just like they looked down on the Native Americans that they relocated to reservations and took their land.

Racism came about when whites decided they couldn't work in the same place as who was once upon a time a slave, they couldn't stand getting paid the same amount as someone they felt was lower than them in all aspects of life. Racism came about when White men decided they'd start the Klu Klux Klan to scare African Americans to stop fighting for freedom, and stay in their side of the country and continue to be beneath them. Racism came about when they began to not only inflict fear but show what they really could do, if blacks weren't obedient to their rules.

That being said Robinson I strongly disagree with you. Racism isn't just a mistake like spilling wine or stubbing toes. Racism is something above the people who actually experience and went through it. Racism is something that is bigger than me and you. More than all than Racism is still very current and active in American Society. When Racism occurs its not something as simply as spilling wine and stubbing toes, its serious as death, and the lost of a child and the mourn in his mother's heart.

Racism is something that's not accidental. Its not a mistake, a misunderstanding. Its something that's real. "Racism is a lot of things - cancerous, insidious, learned, dangerous, destructive, dumb, vicious, institutional - but not accidental." As well as not accidental it is definitely not a mistake.

Although you were speaking in terms of something else, I feel the strongest urge and need to get on to or better yet in your word "Size" up anyone who makes racism a simply thing, because at the end of the day racism is not a simply thing. People dying, getting killed, and being discriminated against is not a simple thing as spilling wine and stubbing toes.

The Natural Talk

“She needs to have long hair” The most said statement coming from many black men these days, and even more than that coming from many young black men. Today’s media proclaims that if a black girl doesn't have long hair, then she’s not date-able, she’s not worth it, and she’s NOT PRETTY. Pictures, magazines, and tv has made it clear that unless your crush looks like Gabrielle Union with long black beautiful hair then she’s not worth the time or the effort.

That being we have so many beautiful black Women destroying their natural short and kinky hair to perm it out to be straight and long, and those who can’t use the perm use tracks, weaves, wigs etc. Anything they can think of to make their hair long, softer, and more attractive to black men. The trend continues with up and coming young black girls. They can’t wait to hit the age of five years old when they know Momma will say “baby’s at that age now to perm her hair out”. She feels good in herself, knowing she won’t go to school and be teased and bullied by the name napps. She looks forward to the day when the name will be behind her, when her peers will forget that her hair was once kinky, and thick.

I don’t like to blame it all on the media because they’re not all to be blamed. Moms are to be blamed as well, instead of letting your babies know how beautiful their natural hair is, you indulge them to the fact that one day they can change it, and add to it.  You set examples of how they should be wearing their hair as you wear you’re fake hair. Taking them to the beauty shops and letting them sit and watch as you pick from a set of hair that you like, and you’re hairdresser puts them in.

Although the natural movement is catching on. Some of our same sisters look down on our natural hair, judge us and say they could never do it. We hope for the sake of our babies, and the generation to come, you’ll soon be able to do what’s in the best interests of your babies hair.

The Imperfections of life and Society

There are a few things I don’t understand about life, and the way it goes around. Better yet there a thousand things I don’t understand about life. Like why god see’s the things that we do, already knew we’d be doing them but makes our conscience kill us with guilt? Why everyone and their religion thinks they can really truly and honestly tell me what Jesus is thinking, and how he’s going to judge me and punish me for my sins?

I also don’t understand why I’m in one of the best relationships I've ever had in my life but I can’t enjoy it, I can’t have my family be happy for me, I can’t share it with my mother, my brothers and sisters and get their ideas, their blessings and their approval because they’ll all look it as an abomination and curse to their kind and religion. I don’t understand why my happiness must feel so wrong, but whenever my body is close to hers, and she moans in my ear everything in my world seems so right.

I don’t understand why my best friend has to break up with her girlfriend because she fears she’s going to hell, and she’s trying not to constantly mess up people’s lives because she feels like that’s all she’s ever done in life. The fact of the matter being that she’s changed people’s life, for the better. She makes people smile, she makes them happy and she inspires hearts.

I don’t understand why my girlfriend constantly tells me she loves me, falls in love with me , and pours out her heart to me and I love her, believe I do but damn my mind keeps going back to the bible, how wrong it, how much god hates it, how god burned the city to the ground because they committed unnatural sexual acts.

Besides all that religion and biblical things that I don’t understand about life. I also don’t understand the cycle of things and the way they work. Why does the rich and wealthy who do terribly things to have gotten where they are (Not all but mainly most) get to live the way they do, day after day, and the poor and sick have to continually work and work to just get shit on every day. I don’t understand that at all. Why we still have social classes in a society that has their first African American president?. I don’t understand how White people and yes I said WHITE PEOPLE think we’re the bad ones in society when we do everything they refuse to do clean shit, wash toilets, babysit and raise their children etc.

I hate to hurt any body’s feelings or put it way too hard out there, and make you guys finally stop sitting on your hands and deciding  that everything that’s wrong with your life and society has nothing to do with you, you’re wrong it has everything to do with you. The word “Negro” just didn't come about on its own somebody said it and it caught on. The word “Nigga” just didn't become a slang term for all homies in the hood, and all rappers in Harlem until someone said, and let it carry itself. Technology growth didn't just spring about, everyone in society made a complaint, made a request and it got granted.  So while we would all want to sit around and ignore the public and the real problems we’re facing let’s get real, stop wearing those masks and our fake hair and come clean, you did something to contribute to society and you rode on it to get where you are, and where you’re planning to be. Start taking responsibility for your actions. Point of the matter, our work is never
